Costa Venezia – a brand new STM ship
"For us it is obvious that every ship should be able to communicate its intentions in a standardized way. "
When Costa Venezia was christened March 1 in Trieste she became the newest “STM-ship” in the world. Costa Venezia is however not the latest, since ships are becoming STM-compatible every day. Franco Caraffi, IT Director at Carnival Maritime says: “For us it is obvious that every ship should be able to communicate its intentions in a standardized way. It is a basis for improved safety – the information is important for bridge officers, fleet operations centres and for VTS. “
Costa Venezia uses Carnival Neptune Platform to share the Voyage Plan with the Fleet Operation Centers (FOC). The connection to STM runs via the FOC and personnel on-board and in the FOC can use any STM service available.
